The Thinker by Steven Harrington

Far removed from Rodin’s realistic portrayal of the philosophical soul on La Porte de l’Enfer, Steven Harrington’s The Thinker is a comical, cartoonish rendition of a questioning mind. The porcelain piece, produced through Case Studyo in Belgium, is less of an internal struggle than an external conversation. The protruding nose – so much so that it deserves a higher designation than 3D – and the parted lips are only some of the fascinating features that this thinker poses. The disproportionate face is awkward, yes, but it is also thought-provoking. That’s the whole point, isn’t it?
