2015 Milan Collection by Morten & Jonas

The Norwegian design studio Morten & Jonas recently launched their 2015 Milan collection at the Satellite exhibition at Salone del Mobile. The range includes seating, tables, lighting, and decor, all functional yet stylized with its own contemporary and creative twist.

Biggest of the range is the Hoff. Supported by a steel and wood base, the modular sofa is upholstered with textiles collaboratively designed by M&J and Kiyoshi Yamamoto. Each piece comes in a variety of colors and shapes, which can be rearranged to create fresh looks and forms.

A lovely side table to go alongside the Hoff, the Von Iron is a modern-day take on traditional techniques. Available in two distinct sizes, styles, and colors, the end table is made of smoked oak and stands on raw iron legs, which are twisted for strength and visual appeal.

Another excellent choice, the Imono is a side table with a curved base, inspired by the flaps of a kimono. The two decorative legs are crafted from one’s choice of wood or coated steel and come with a simple, round-edged tabletop of Norwegian pine.

Morten & Jonas’ 2015 lighting series includes designs for the desk, the ceiling, and the floor. A contemporary companion to any of the furniture in the same collection, the tabletop lamp, Crystal, is hand-blown from milk glass and affixed to a white, coated aluminum base.

The pendant, Inside, hangs from a steel suspension. On the outside, the lamp is shelled with a smooth shade of hand-blown glass. Within, the design houses a small, twisted lampshade, which echoes the geometry of the Von Iron table.

The floor lamp, Up and Down, stands on a symmetrical, circular base crafted from steel. Its lampshade is vacuum-molded from plastic, and the lightweight component can be flipped so that the spotlight hits the floor in the downward position or the ceiling in the upward variation.

Another handblown glass design, Plenty is generous-sized, functional vase. The container can be used to display flowers with the top off or store other items with the wooden cap sealed shut.

Last but not least, That’s Right is a wooden dish that’s quartered and magnetized together. Available in a variety of natural and colorful finishes, the wood-turned ash pieces can be customized and rearranged to accent the personality of the room.
