Anicorn Watches Series K452

Kickstarter has become a treasure trove for watch enthusiasts, as it seems every week a new campaign launches to shake up the market. Well proving the old adage that we should let the good times roll, hot from the presses comes the launch of the Series K452 from watchmaker Anicorn. Founded by two Hong Kong-based designers with a love for all things NASA, the watches in the collection seek to honor all of the extraordinary achievements that the Space Program has accomplished since its inception in 1958.

The Series takes its name from the discovery of Kepler-452b, an exoplanet NASA has identified as potentially habitable, and seeks to capture our world on the cusp of a new chapter in space exploration.

The Series takes its name from the discovery of Kepler-452b, an exoplanet NASA has identified as potentially habitable, and seeks to capture our world on the cusp of a new chapter in space exploration. But lets get to the watches themselves, as they are truly remarkable. Forgoing the usual hands one expects from a watch dial, the face features two distinguished rings, with an outer one telling the hour and an inner one telling the minute.
The automatic movement is self-winding, meaning no batteries required, and a transparent case back even lets you view the anchor-shaped weight as it swings back and forth, turning your movements into kinetic energy to wind the watch. The stainless steel bodies of the watches are meant to recall spacecraft, while the Milanese mesh bracelets recall the treads and airless tires pioneered by NASA to let men drive on the moon. The color scheme varies depending on which model you choose, with in my opinion the limited edition Interstellar model featuring the best option, with its play of black, grey and gold. The watches are sized to fit any wrist, and the whole package is brought together by with a sleek typeface developed by Swiss studio Nouvelle Noire. A modification of the “Coupé” font, it’s important that the type retain a celestial air as the whole project thrives off the language of space terminology. As the campaign has already met its funding goal (after a single day no less), models are expected to ship in September of 2016 to backers. So for a watch that is out of this world (sorry), look no further than the Anicorn Series K452.

Amid the unrest of earning his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from RISD, Nathaniel manages to find the time to read, write, hang out with friends, play drums, and listen to music. Nathaniel has learned a lot about architecture firsthand thanks to opportunities to live and work in Rome and Brooklyn during the past year. Coming from a family with strong roots in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Nathaniel has always maintained a strong love for NYC especially, and after his studies finish up in Providence he may move there for a while. He hasn't decided yet. You can connect with him via Linkedin or by visiting his Portfolio page.
