Originally designed by the Danish architect Finn Juhl, the Pelican is an underestimated design that ended up standing the test of time. When it debuted in 1940, critics dismissed the dramatically curved chair. Yet, 60 years later, it caught the attention of onecollection’s Henrik Sørensen and Ivan Hansen, designers of the Kindt Larsen Taburet Stool. They first remade the Pelican in 2000 and successfully launched the chair as an iconic furniture design. Now, for the Pelican’s 75th anniversary, onecollection is releasing an art edition in collaboration with DOMICILECULTURE. The latest chair is emblazoned with “Macbeth,” the 1942 pen and ink drawing by the Danish artist Asger Jorn. The abstract artwork is woven into the high-quality jacquard, and the seat is upholstered by hand. High-contrast in black and white, the energetic design stands on rounded wooden legs, a sleek complement to the textured fabric. Debuting next month, the art edition will be on display in Milan from April 14 to 19, 2015, as part of Salone del Mobile.
