Abstraction

‘911’ By Chris Labrooy

UK-based artist and designer Chris Labrooy likes to “subvert and twist familiar everyday things into new typographic and sculptural forms,” creating vibrant images that captivate with their surreal atmosphere and their intricacy, but also amuse with their playfulness. For the ‘911’ series, the digital artist used the iconic 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and the equally iconic setting of Palm Springs, California.

Golden mountains, tall palm trees and gorgeous mid-century architecture bathed in radiant sunlight provide the backdrop for the main characters. Pink cars suspended in a net hover above a perfectly maintained front garden, while blue Porsches float in a pool just as the sun begins to set and gives the sky oink and lilac hues. A white car appears to have fallen from the sky as it stands between two walls, its headlights facing upwards. The dream-like images feature pastel colors and brighter hues, all suffused in the bright Californian sun.
