House SPI is a contemporary take on a traditional Alpine farmhouse. Located 1100 meters, or 3608 feet, above sea level, the Spado Architects design is built into the slope of the Görtschitz Valley in Carinthia, Austria. The two-story home stands on a blocky white foundation and is clad in naturally finished wood, with the planks oriented vertically for the siding and horizontally for the V-shaped roof. In keeping with the colloquial architecture, the timber frame is crafted from local larch from the ground floor patio to the second-floor balcony.
Inside, the countryside home is simply designed with warm elements such as the half-height partition and fireplace. The functional furniture speaks to the necessities of rural life, giving the house an overall sense of belonging as well as style.
