A Thousand Traps to Escape

View all 12 Photos

13 Students from Laval University located in Magdalen Island in Quebec, under the guide of Olivier Bourgeois, designed the “A Thousand Traps to Escape” temporary installation. This project is a collaboration of themes of architecture, art, landscape and installation in the creation of space using simple materials. Utilizing basic rules of construction, lobster traps made out of wood and fishnet are used to create relatively complex visual results. These students were inspired by the horizontality and fluidity of the sea, when visitors approach the structure from afar they first perceive it as a long barrier but as they continue to walk along the stacked traps they will notice the path leads to end with a circular enclosure, a space of gathering and evasion within these thousand traps. This space is created perfectly for community use while efficient in construction techniques, materials and innovation.
