A Toy for the Table

Giàcolu is more than just a lamp; the playful design encourages a level of interaction and engagement akin to iconic childhood favorites. Endless possibilities lie waiting for the user’s creative hand to have their say in this designed game. From simple table lamp to task light, the clever form can easily and intuitively be adjusted to suit just about any function – or aesthetic. According to Giampaolo Allocco of Italian studio Delineo Design, “Even adults will return to children, as when playing with Meccano to build buildings and forms starting from a few basic elements.” Bare wood and colorful metallic components add yet another layer of whimsy to the spirited piece that has the potential to rejuvenate just about any space – and even the people in it. The consumer becomes the designer as they choose the form their product will take in this innovative take on domestic design.

Lizzie Wright is an aspiring artist and designer with a passion for the written word. While she works on her BFA in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she spends her (rare) spare time riding around Providence on her trusty Cannondale and drinking lots of coffee. She is especially fascinated by the dichotomy between aesthetic form and function, which has an immense influence on her work. As a lover of the natural world, Lizzie plans to focus on Nature, Culture, and Sustainability Studies to pursue a more efficient future for design. Read more by visiting her website
