The Finnish padlock employs disc locks, washers that rotate to fit the lock’s key, as a more secure alternative to standard, vertical pin locks. Not to spend too long on details, but disc locks are sturdy enough for the outdoors and have commonly been used in industrial settings. Better locking-plate technology does not mean a bulkier design, for the stacked discs allow the body of the lock to be smaller in volume.
