An Architect’s Cabin in Les Praz de Chamonix, France

View all 25 Photos

The French firm Chevallier Architectes designed this two-story cabin for a fellow architect. Standing nearby the Trent Jones golf course in Les Praz de Chamonix, the house offers clear views of the Alpine village and scenery such as the Aiguille du Dru.

As one might expect, windows play a big part in the design, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. Additionally, the home is clad in wood, arranged in a horizontal, openwork pattern that lets even more natural lighting permeate the interior.

The independent home includes an American-style kitchen, a living room, and a garage on the ground floor, plus two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and an office upstairs. One of the buildings has an especially good look at the mountainside via a projecting alcove, which is not just rustic but rusted.
