The Beijing-based designer Naihan Li is currently interested in turning architecture into furniture. Her latest collection, “I AM A MONUMENT,” is a series of pieces that reimagine iconic architecture as collectible furnishings. One of the most handsome pieces, “CCTV,” takes after the China Central Television building originally designed by Rem Koolhaas. Shrunk to 1/100 of the size of the station headquarters, the wardrobe mimics the unusual shape of the landmark. Its angular, three-dimensional form allows for structural innovation and movement, which Li takes full advantage of. Seemingly every side of the Brazilian rosewood design opens up to reveal drawers, dividers, and additional clothing storage. Supported by the international Gallery ALL, CCTV and the other “I AM A MONUMENT” designs will be on view from December 3rd to December 7th at the Design Miami/Curio program at Miami Beach.
