This cozy little flat in Kawasaki city, Japan spins renovation with some of the original structuring to create a harmonious language of blending the old with the new. Ninkipen! (Yasuo Imazu) unearthed some hidden treasures to be exposed into the apartment during the reconstruction process. The two large intersecting concrete beams were left to stretch across the vastness of the space after the 30-year old interior veneers and ceiling panels were removed. A new relationship between the original load bearing structures and the new interior sections was ignited leaving a chance for function and beauty to radiate to the flat’s contrasting rough textures and its smooth reflective surfaces.
