Casa Prè de Sura by Casati

Appearances can be deceiving, but a superficial deception is a positive attribute to Casa Prè de Sura of San Martino in Badia, Italy. Austrian architects as Casati have disguised the regal interiors of the three-story house so that the unassuming wooden exterior and extruded, boxy windows reveal no secrets about the luxurious living spaces. This gabled house on a hillside navigates varying elevations by having the garage on the lowest level, and all of the home’s metal-framed staircases stacked on one side. Limestone aggregate walls add an olden and warm texture to the rooms, while the polished floor of the kitchen and dining area give off a refreshing sheen. A monolithic, trapezoidal fireplace salutes the inhabitants while a large statue stands guard in the long hallway. Windows are placed at varying heights to accommodate adults as well as the little princes and princesses, and offer majestic snapshots of nature. Befittingly, the view from the window also reveals a castle – a real, historical one – in the distance, castello di San Martino.
