Inventive Chair Design – Dango Armchair By Agnieszka Kowal

The chair design idea for the Dango armchair came to Agnieszka Kowal as she helped some friends move into a new apartment, carrying heavy and decidedly inconvenient furniture. The Polish interior designer thought about simplifying not only the seating itself, but also the process of moving from one home to another. Taking its name after a popular Japanese sweet, Dango features two eye-catching fabric poufs that give it a distinctive look. These soft sections feature a plywood element; they double as backrest and seat cushions as well as compact ottomans. That way, the armchair allows one person or up to three people to sit in comfort.

The two ottomans easily attach to and detach from the compressed plywood chair. Laser cut patterns enhance the chair’s modern aesthetic, while also ensuring that it has a flexible backrest. Two leather straps act as armrests, adding another creative accent to the design. Photographs© Marta Pociecha.
