The Corner Collection

A minimalist furniture range inspired by children’s house drawings.

Melbourne-based studio another bureau of design creates furniture, lighting, and objects that explore the inherent qualities of materials like wood, metal and clay. The firm uses both handmade and industrial production techniques to bring the designs to life. For the Corner collection, another bureau of design took inspiration from children’s drawings of typical houses: simple, with minimal lines and gable roofs. The range also references Brutalism with its spartan forms and angular shapes devoid of any curves. The Corner collection comprises three pieces of furniture: a stool, a bench, and a lounge chair. While the Corner Stool is the smallest, it can double as a side table and occupies minimal floor space. By contrast, the Corner Bench is the longest iteration of the form and the Corner Lounge the largest.

The bench provides seating spaces for more people and features the line’s signature gable roof-like backrest. Completed in an L-shaped form, it allows the user to extend the bench with a stool. Wider and with a taller backrest, the lounge seat offers a comfortable solution to take a break with a cup of coffee or a good book by a window. All three pieces of furniture come in different versions. Apart from brushed aluminum, the studio also produces the Corner collection in raw steel, patinated steel, or solid wood. Other materials and finishes are also available upon request. Photographs © another bureau of design.
