While Antiques of the Future focused on Roberts’ own collection, the new title explores contemporary design in the context of changing technology and values. DesignPOP is both an introduction to cutting-edge design and a resource for inspiration, collecting innovative work created between 2000 and 2014. Published by Rizzoli, DesignPOP is a hardcover volume with a hot pink vinyl cover. Indeed, the book itself is a striking design.
Inside, readers will find Roberts’ warm, informative commentary, fully illustrated with pictures of iconic pieces. The book provides a fresh look at popular designs; 95% of the photography is original. The designs included play with materiality, process, technology, shape, and variance. They cross the boundaries dividing design, art, and craft, and they promote sustainability and other good causes without sacrificing their beauty.
