Ian Moore Architects

Sydney , Australia

Founded in Sydney in 1990, Ian Moore Architects is a small studio with an international footprint. The team draws on the founder’s early training in civil and structural engineering to give each project a clear tectonic logic—steel expressed honestly, junctions resolved down to the last bolt. That rigour supports spaces known for calm proportions and filtered light, whether the brief is a single house on a tight city block or an adaptive-reuse complex for the public realm.

The practice’s portfolio has travelled widely, appearing at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2008, 2012) and in exhibitions from Berlin to Buenos Aires. Awards follow almost every outing, from national AIA honours to category wins at the World Architecture Festival. Teaching studios, guest lectures, and jury seats keep the office in constant dialogue with the wider profession, feeding back into design research on structure, sustainability, and urban infill. Three decades on, the studio still works like a workshop: sketches pinned up, models tested in daylight, and details iterated until the architecture feels inevitable rather than imposed.
