Knox Bhavan is a RIBA-chartered studio founded in 1995 by partners Simon Knox and Sasha Bhavan. Operating from a newly re-worked terrace in Peckham, South-East London, the eight-person practice concentrates on finely made houses and small civic projects that slot into tight urban or sensitive rural settings. Every commission begins with a simple structural idea, then drills down to junctions, daylight, and energy use. Timber frames, exposed brick, reclaimed steel and deep reveals are chosen less for show than for longevity and low-carbon performance; each detail is drawn until the contractor can build it once—and build it well.
That patience wins consistent recognition. Threefold House made the RIBA House of the Year longlist in 2023, while The Little Big House picked up a 2024 RIBA East Award, Project Architect of the Year and a Stephen Lawrence Prize shortlist—praised for combining inclusive layout with passive-first energy design. Today Knox Bhavan continues to treat architecture as crafted infrastructure: modest in scale, exact in execution, and quietly generous to both occupants and landscape.
