“Dressed” Cookware Collection by Marcel Wanders

How elegant is your cookware? Instead of focusing on a fine dining, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders introduces fine cooking with his “Dressed” cookware collection for Alessi. The line of pans – frying, grill, sauce, the list goes on – uses the less conventional non-stick aluminum make. Despite the general consumer market’s lesser appreciation for aluminum cookware, Wanders transforms and elevates the metal by showcasing its malleability as a medium for art. The dark gray of the aluminum is contrasted by the chrome look of the stainless steel lids and handles. Through a drawing and coining technique on the stainless steel, essentially forming the metal’s shape while creating its pattern detail, a raised artistic design with smooth curves and swirls reminiscent of the pattern on a Chinese garden gate is impressed on the steel. Wanders certainly presents the couture of cookware through this work, and the kitchen closet is sure to appreciate the high-quality, stylish pieces.
