Dune Collection By Lisa Ertel

Poetic and beautiful, the Dune collection designed by Lisa Ertel pays homage to the passage of time and to 16th-century rural furniture. Using a sandblasting technique that removes the softer outer layers from solid wood, the designer accentuated the grain of the natural material, highlighting the growth of the tree. Thus, the story of each chair, stool and bench becomes conspicuous and tangible, giving the furniture collection a distinctive character. The undulating lines create a captivating texture, while the light color gives the surface a soft, almost ethereal presence despite its solidity.

Featuring bold shapes and chunky elements, the designs reference centuries-old German seating found throughout the countryside. Thus, the range celebrates history and nature while providing a creative take on a traditional furniture design. Originally made as the designer’s final year project at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, the Dune collection was displayed at this year’s Milan design week and it has also been shortlisted for an ein&zwanzig award by the German Design Council.
