Durr!: A Brainteaser

Skrekkøgle’s Durr! is a watch or a bracelet, depending on how you look at it. The handmade design appears watch-like, with a brown leather strap and a face and matching buckle available in colors of fjord blue, asphalt, banana yellow, frosty green, and cooked salmon. But, while the device doesn’t tell time, it doesn’t just sit pretty either. The Durr! vibrates every five minutes, making the wearer feel how time passes. While one naturally has a sense of the metaphorical clock ticking, one’s perception of those ticks is filtered through one’s emotional reactions. Thus, waiting in line for a concert can seem as though it took longer than the headline act. Skrekkøgle presents Durr! as a more objective companion to one’s internal clock. Subtly reminding the wearer that all is not as it seems, the ambiguous accessory increases one’s awareness both of how time is actually passing and of how one distorts the truth. Durr! packs a lot of questions in its slim form, and whether or not it passes as a watch or a novelty bracelet, the design is certainly an innovation.
