This house with two chimneys was built by Onix Architects in Bosschenhoofd in the Netherlands. Clad in naturally finished wood, the home has a light, crisp look that contrasts with the weathered facade of the old farmhouse, now used as a studio. The modern addition nonetheless features traditional elements such as a saddleback roof and the aforementioned chimneys. These components root the design in colloquial architecture, even as its styling leans toward more contemporary aesthetics. Like many houses today, the home has large windows for natural lighting and views. Inside, concrete and wood predominate. The use of concrete for the floors, fireplace, and staircase is especially striking, as the material brings a somewhat industrial look to the Dutch country home.
