Emeco Za Stool Series

Eco-friendly stools inspired by an iconic design.

When minimalist design and sustainable manufacturing come together, great things happen. Throw in a design icon into the mix, and you have a winning recipe. Designed by Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa for Emeco, the Za stool series pays homage to the classic Navy Chair. The series comprises stools in three heights. “The Navy chair is one of the most identified icons in America. I had an image of a round stool, which could become a natural part of the Navy chair family, like a brother or sister,” said Naoto Fukasawa. The word “za” means “a place to sit” in Japanese and refers to the designer’s desire to create a versatile piece of furniture that suits any décor and space – whether indoors or outdoors.

Naoto Fukasawa’s design pays homage to the industrial character of the original Navy Chair, featuring clean lines and curved forms. Rounded and smooth, the seat enhances comfort, along with the footrest. Za is also made with sustainability in mind, as each stool is handcrafted from recycled aluminum. Lightweight and easy to move around a room or terrace, the stool is also extremely durable. Indeed, Emeco crafts every Za stool to last a lifetime and to become an heirloom. Available in three heights, small, counter, and bar, the Za stools also come in a range of finishes. Customers can choose between the hand-brushed or the hand-polished aluminum versions. Alternatively, they can select from the six powder-coated aluminum colors: Dark Gray, White Gray, Light Blue, Coral Orange, Green, and Sweater Brown. Photographs© Emeco.
