Combining exact and attitude, photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek have meshed the words together to create the photo series and book, Exactitudes. This project is aimed to “systematically document numerous identities over the last 16 years” from the metropolitan areas around the globe. For the series, Versluis and Uyttenbroek placed different subjects in an exact framework performing similar poses with particular garments to create an anthropological record of people simulating a group identity.
“The apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity is, however, taken to such extremes in their arresting objective-looking photographic viewpoint and stylistic analysis that the artistic aspect clearly dominates the purely documentary element.”
