Fabriken Furillen Hotel

Stretching across 600 acres of an old quarry site on the island of Gotland off the southeastern coast of Sweden, this ecofriendly hotel, Fabriken Furillen is certainly minimalist yet it feels very welcoming. Transformed by its founder Johan Hellström in the 90s from a limestone refinery, he preserved the original infrastructure and recycled local materials such as concrete, limestone and hardwood to build the hotel’s 17 rooms. The interior matches perfectly with the industrial character of the buildings and the colors of its surrounding areas. Perfect for visitors looking for complete solitude, there are wi-fi free hermit cabins alongside the hotel to provide total escapism, some say the greatest part about the structures is the unknown, even if you look at the building carefully you still can’t see what’s on the inside.
