German Farmhouse Renovation

The architecture firm Buero Philip Moeller recently renovated this 1890 farmhouse as a spacious family home in Moorenweis, Germany. They reorganized the floor plan, integrating the living area and what was once a cattle shed. But, they kept much of the original structure, including the roof truss and the format of the ground level and first floor. Outlined by exposed rafters and support beams, the lower levels retain their original romantic character. In concert with the country accents, the neutral palette soothes the eye and unifies the home with the browns of sandblasted wood and oiled oak floors warm against a backdrop of white walls and black steel.
