Grindelwald: A Rustic Mobile Fireplace by Benjamin Zweifel

View all 11 Photos

Grindelwald is a one-of-a-kind furnace designed and handcrafted by Benjamin Zweifel, an oven-maker based in the Wiedlisbach municipality of Switzerland. Like a train, the mobile fireplace travels on rails. In the case of this small, personal design, the rails are built into the floor and run from inside the home to outside on the terrace, lending warmth to the interior and open fire to the open air. The eye-catching trolley is a restored tunnel cart, a rustic and rusted piece of history. The piece is nonetheless fully functional as a wood-burning fireplace. Evocative of mining, the industrial relic brings a touch of underground imagery and rarely seen wonder to the surface.
