Guntu Hotel

A tranquil destination in the Seto Inland Sea.

This floating hotel Japan added to its list of must-see places stuns with its blend of tradition and modern design. Designed by architect Yasushi Horibe, Guntu hotel floats on the Seto Inland Sea, offering visitors the perfect opportunity to relax in a striking landscape. The name references the nickname of a local crab, which links the modern hotel to its setting. At the same time, the name shows the desire to create a warm relationship with the both the local community and international passengers.

The small cruise ship has 19 rooms, all boasting their own terrace and gorgeous sea views. Simplicity defines the décor. Throughout the hotel, wooden surfaces that feature varying amounts of grain and shades of brown create a welcoming space, while large windows fill the private and common areas with natural light. Guests can enjoy delicious Japanese food and seasonal dishes in the expansive dining room. A sushi counter stocked with freshly caught fish and seafood is also included in this space; here, guests can order the ‘Setouchi Sushi’, a delicacy unique to Guntu.
