The Half Moon Table

A minimalist table that resembles a geometric sculpture.

California-based designer Mark Kelley has been creating a wide range of designs over the past eight years. Whether developed through his own studio Magma Form or as part of collaborations with other design agencies, his work varies widely. Projects include everything from accessories and footwear to medical goods and electronics. One of his latest designs, the Half Moon table looks more like a sculptural object than a practical piece of furniture. The concept explores the purity of simple geometric forms. Designed with three elements, the table is both distinctive and modern.

Half Moon features a cylindrical steel base with a slim profile but a weighty feel. On top, the joined oak sections have circular shapes and intersect to create a half moon form. In an imaginative twist, the wood slides into the steel base, almost making the metal look softer than the organic material. While the base boasts a dark blue paint finish, the solid oak displays warm natural colors and textures.

More than just a bold furniture design, the Half Moon table also puts a focus on function. The user can easily remove the top, whether for transportation to another room or to a new home. Plus, the compact shape ensures that the design fits into smaller apartments.
