Hawkesbury Residence by Marmol Radziner

Located in Wanaka, New Zealand, the Hawkesbury residence is designed by Los Angeles based architect Marmol Radziner. The building overlooks the rolling farmland of Mountain Barker, with an elongated elevation towards the North. A deep roof eave blocks strong sunlight of the southern hemisphere at the same time frames the distant alpine peaks. Linear configuration and shallow footprint allows gorgeous view of the mountains from all of its interior rooms which are framed by the roofline and cedar deck. A stone containing wall parallels the entry path which contains integrated benches and outdoor fireplace, its common and private areas are placed in separate volumes connected by a stair case. The great room bordered by an entire glass perimeter includes the kitchen and living room. A wood wall encloses the study, bathrooms and ladder to a bedroom loft. The master and children’s bedrooms are located in a private wing complete with unobstructed view of the landscape as well.
