Like a present wrapped inside another present, House Tijl&Indra features a house within a house. The extension to the residence in Gent, Belgium takes the formal appearance of a planked façade, which becomes an unexpected presence in the home’s white interiors. Studio Atelier Vens Vanbelle chooses to play up this juxtaposition and continues the unconventional use of material by lining the walls of his mini-house (actually hiding a raised kitchen and a pseudo-balcony) with wooden panels as well. A set of functional stairs cut through the walls of the mini-house, as if to make a statement that both inner and outer are connected entities yet different spatial experiences in their own rights.
