This factory-inspired house was designed and made by Yuji Kimura in Chiba, Japan. Boxy and industrial, the exterior is cladded with galvanized steel and studded with square windows in varying sizes. At one corner, the garage is visible through a sliding mesh door. Directly above the garage yet hidden from view, there is an enclosed balcony, accessible by sliding glass door from the uppermost level. Inside, natural wood serves as a warm complement to the white walls and the stainless steel kitchen. The mezzanine loft provides space for storage and an added level for visual interest and flow. Altogether, the steely house embodies the industrial look with a distinctly contemporary mix of materials.
