The Lemnos Paper-Wood Clocks

Eco-friendly wall clocks made from colored recycled paper and wood.

First developed in 2009 in a collaboration between design studios Drill Design and Fullswing along with Japanese plywood manufacturer Takizawa Veneer, Paper-Wood is a new kind of plywood. Eco-friendly and innovative, the material has become popular with design studios and architects all over the world. After two years of an extensive manufacturing and design process, award-winning Japanese brand Lemnos has unveiled a new series of wall clocks that feature the hybrid material. Made from colored recycled paper and wooden sheets, Paper-Wood combines the natural hues of wood with colorful accents.

The Lemos Paper-Wood Clocks collection complements this ingenious material with a minimalist design. The Navy or Green hands stand out from afar, but looking closely at the Japanese plywood dials reveals other details. Apart from intricate detailing, one can also admire colorful lines on the markers and edge of the dial. The range includes Drill Design’s Line and Dot wall clocks, both of them made with traditional and modern techniques.

Dots or lines replace the classic hour and minute markers. Processed using CNC woodworking technology, the dials also feature engraving that reveals the colors of the paper. Finally, each clock is carefully hand-polished and assembled by craftsmen from the Toyama region. The collection includes the larger Paper-Wood Line clock as well as a smaller Paper-Wood Dot version, both of them suitable for a wide range of spaces, from children’s rooms to kitchens and from offices to coffee shops.
