Ligomancer

In 2015, architect Livio Ballabio founded the JCP brand with the aim to create eclectic objects that fuse design and art. Italian-Greek studio CTRLZAK is the creative mind behind the company and has recently designed a bespoke sofa that challenges classic aesthetics and notions of form. The “Ligomancer” features a lattice of elastic bands wrapping around a stainless steel tubular framework in an overlapping pattern. The form was simplified into lines connecting the structural support, offering a creative take on the construction of a traditional sofa, where the bands would be hidden inside the cushioned furniture. This act of deconstruction is as artistic as it is functional. The previously concealed bands are brought to the surface, offering a striking yet comfortable seating solution. User interaction also plays a role in the design, creating an interesting visual evolution from line to surface and volume, once the form meets function. The tubes are coated with a custom-made copper finish, adding more contrast and color to the composition, as well as enhancing the visual impact of this one of a kind sofa. Images courtesy of CTRLZAK.
