An award-winning project from Bonnifait + Giesen, Lloyd Holiday House stretches the definition of the New Zealand bach with its metal façade. Contrary to the image of a getaway home near the shore, this residence shyly hides in a wooded area but its interiors are left open to view through the panels of glazing. The tangible relationship between constructed and natural forms the new bach, and the wooden veranda that leads up and through the house facilitates this intimacy. The bushes around the holiday house cut into its form, reinforcing an already present harmony. High ceilings and pendant lamps accentuate spaciousness and freedom within the home’s interiors, just as how the surrounding trees reach relentlessly for the sky’s blue.
