The Jazz Dining Chair

An off-beat twist on the classic dining chair.

Designed by David and Julian Löhr, Jazz draws inspiration from the beloved musical genre for its creative and unconventional chair design. Similarly to jazz music, the chair keeps order, freedom, and rhythm in perfect balance. The design reinterprets the dining chair typology with an off-beat twist. The Loehr Jazz chair comes in two versions, with or without armrests. Both options have vertical legs at the back which support the backrest and angled legs at the front. A generously sized seat provides excellent comfort while the rounded backrest curves around the user. Although they share the same frame with a central cross shape, the different versions vary in some key points. The chair without armrests has four legs and a smaller backrest. By contrast, the dining chair with armrests has a 45 ° rotated frame that supports a larger backrest; this version also features one front leg instead of two.

Sculptural and refined in any version, Jazz is also handcrafted from high-quality and eco-friendly materials. The frame features either European beech or oak wood while the molded plywood backrest comes with a beech core and a veneer in beech or oak. All of the wood comes from sustainably managed forests in France or Germany. Plus, Loehr uses only eco-friendly color or clear lacquers for the varnish, which makes the chair completely recyclable. Finally, the company produces the chair and its components locally through non-industrial manufacturing methods, resulting in a product with a minimal carbon footprint. Both versions of the Loehr Jazz chair come in clear or colored finishes, with or without an upholstered seat. Photography© Loehr.
