Opened during the London Design Festival 2017, the Making A Living Exhibition features a collection of products designed for experimental living. The brainchild of Max Frommeld, the show was brought to life after the designer received a prestigious Arts Foundation prize. The award provided the opportunity to develop the objects in two different locations: the designer’s East London studio and his family’s workshop in California. In the former, Frommeld explored new manufacturing techniques and materials while also refining his designing process; in the latter, he took on the challenge to create an object every day for a month, using not only local materials but also a set of four tools.
The collection combines the two types of work. The over twenty handmade items range from one-offs to ready-for-production designs. Created for residential interiors, the objects cover various aspects of domestic living, from resting and socializing to playing and dressing.
