Marmoreal, “real marble” in Italian, is a mixed material developed by Dzek and the British designer Max Lamb. The composite is 95% marble and 5% polyester resin, an admixture which actually makes the material more durable and less porous than raw marble. Sourced from quarries in northern Italy, the marble is speckled with green Verde Alpi, ochre Giallo Mori, and red Rosso on a backdrop of white Bianco Verona. Contemporary and complex, the material can be used in many different ways in the realms of design and interior architecture. To showcase the possibilities, Lamb created a furniture installation which showed at the 2014 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. He used sheets of marmoreal to create a bookcase, chairs, a coffee table, an end table, a full-height table, and shelves, demonstrating the beauty and functionality of this new material.
