Designed by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, the Martin-Lancaster property includes a main house, a pavilion, and a garage and guest house. The handsome courtyard house seems barn-like from the outside. So do the accompanying constructions, each tall, long, and gabled in a classical manner. The house itself is distinguished by its large glass windows and, moving indoors, by its warm neutrals, wood hearth, and high ceilings. Yet, overall, what is most impressive about the buildings how well they complement one another and the surrounding environment. Formidable yet simple, the architecture suits coastal life and fits right atop its cliff.
