Featuring a play on different weights and volumes, the MASS Table offers a creative alternative to the archetypal dining table. Created by Alain Gilles for Italian company Bonaldo, the table has a distinctive personality that sets it apart from other designs. It establishes a dialogue between the visual presence and the solidity of a product, accentuating the relationship between various components in a new way. The base references both the 1830s “crinoline” and the wireframe used by architects and designer in 3D CAD models. Thus, the product blends tradition and contemporary design. As a “see-through” piece, the structure contrasts the solidity of the table top, providing optimum stability at the same time.
The subtle connection between the two pieces creates the illusion of a floating top which seems to hover above the cage-like base. With the help of CNC machines, the tubular sections bend and attach to each other perfectly to compose the unitary structure. Ideal for adding an eye-catching feature to a modern decor, the MASS Table is available in several finishes and with different materials for the top section, including wood, glass and marble.
