Lighting Design Meets Technology: Paper Torch By Nendo

The new Paper Torch by Nendo effectively proves that technology, creativity, and good design can work wonders together. Designed by the Tokyo-based studio and made in a collaboration between paper company Takeo and circuit manufacturer AgIC, the torch offers an ingenious take on lighting design. Made of a single sheet of conductive Yupo paper which boasts a silver checkerboard pattern, the torch combines the latest technology and simplicity.

Water-resistant as well as hard-wearing, the rolled torch suits all kinds of uses, from desk light to emergency lighting. Paper Torch comes with seven LEDs and two switches. The user can not only adjust the intensity of the light by rolling the paper in a loose or tight way, but can also vary the color of the light. When the LEDs match the gray squares, the torch emits a white light, but when they , they illuminate with a warm orange-yellow glow. Photographs© Akihiro Yoshida.
