Creative Furniture By Estudio Persona

A design homage to Montevideo’s culture.

Founded by industrial designer Emiliana Gonzalez and conceptual artist Jessie Young , Los Angeles-based Estudio Persona creates contemporary designs with a fresh, distinctive look. The studio’s furniture collection pays homage to Uruguay and its capital city, Montevideo. Far from the vibrancy of many Latin American designs, the modern sculptural furniture features subtle hues and a minimalist aesthetic. It also favors natural textures instead of intricate patterns. “Montevideo is a gray and melancholic city, perfectly suited to writers and poets,” the duo says. “Our culture is above all rural and European, inherited from our Italian and Spanish forebears. With very British winters,” they add.

The products blend function and sculptural shapes with simplicity. A range of materials that include solid wood, leather, and concrete give the items a refined look, while the matte finish and muted colors enhance their refined design further. Creative and modern, the range features several cylindrical elements. The Una dining table has column-like legs, while the matching chairs come with a similar shape on the backrest. The Puru side table brings together a polished stainless steel section and a round white oak support. The latter also comes in two limited editions: plum resin or peach resin.

Another cylinder-shaped product, the Totem side table and the Totem stackable stools and tray set combine wood and concrete. Finally, the Nido chair stands out in the collection thanks to its cross shaped wooden frame and egg-like form of the leather upholstered seat. Every piece of modern sculptural furniture in the range has the quality of being able to complement any contemporary décor and create a focal point at the same time. Photographs© Estudio Persona.
