A Modern Take on a Traditional Czech Pub

A traditional pub concept, re-interpreted for the 21st-century.

Designed by the mar.s architects studio, the Výčep restaurant in Prague welcomes customers into a friendly space that offers a contemporary twist on a traditional Czech pub. Located in a tenement house in the Vinohrady neighborhood, the restaurant blends classic and modern features. The design draws inspiration from the typical character of a Czech pub from the beginning of the 20th-century, but in a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. The architects referenced traditional features throughout the interior. For example, the original wood paneling has transformed into a strip of green paint which connects all of the spaces and walls within the restaurant. Likewise, oak planks in a herringbone pattern replace the old parquet floors.

A wood and stainless steel bar provides a modern and stylish take on the traditional standing bar area. Here, the customers can order a local Dalešice beer, made in a newly renovated historic brewery. Minimalist wooden benches and more traditional pub chairs that boast a dark brown color provide comfortable seating spaces. In the lounge area, the studio installed a dark wooden ceiling and bright neon lights. The rest of the restaurant features both contemporary and classic lighting.
