The Ibis Häkka MX Bicycle

A road, cross, and gravel bike in one ingenious design.

First presented at Eurobike 2017, this new design from California-based Ibis Cycles offers a convenient bike version of the iconic Swiss Army Knife. Versatile and multi-functional, the Ibis Häkka MX accommodates a range of wheels and tires to transform into an ideal bike for specific needs. For example, the user can install 27.5 mountain bike wheels with up to 2.1” tires and go exploring wild trails. Or in the handy 700c mode, the bicycle will accept tires from 23c to over 40c. This mode can transform the design from a ride suitable for bikepacking and tough terrain into a perfectly balanced bike to win cyclocross races, or into a comfort cruiser, depending on the needs of the rider. The company offers practical options for each scenarios on its official website, suggesting the ideal combinations to make the most of Häkka MX.

Important features include a carbon monochrome frame with internal cable routing and plastic ports that allow optimal adaptability, as well as a Di2 battery mount for Di2 integration. The T47 bottom bracket allows for the use of a 30mm spindle, and it’s also conveniently threaded into the frame. The bicycle comes with a 1X drivetrain, but it’s also compatible with 2x drivetrains. Flat-mount rear disc mounts and fender mounts complete the design. Thanks to its high-quality hydraulic brakes combined with big-traction tires, the bike feels fantastic on dirt roads. Or anywhere, really.

Currently available in two colors, Häkka MX comes in either Fireball or Coal. The former has a bright red color that stands out from afar, while the latter offers a cool monochrome look.
