Naica Mine, located in Chihuahua, Mexico, is a working mine famous for its selenite crystals. These crystals are clear and blade-like, somewhat resembling tube florescent lights. Perhaps this was the inspiration for Naica Lamp, a design from Italian design studio Something. The lamp itself takes the form of a ceramic cave, housing precious light that must be carefully solicited. In continuation of the analogy, Naica Lamp is also a modern take on a miner’s carbide lamp, though a fabric-covered loop replaces a rusty wire handle, and the mouth of the lamp glows in either a clean white or vivacious red.
