The Nikari Furniture Collection

Traditional woodworking meets contemporary design.

Founded in 1967, Finnish company Nikari broke new ground in furniture design from the beginning. Using traditional Nordic woodworking and cabinetmaking techniques along with a minimalist aesthetic, the Finnish design house created distinctive pieces of furniture that brought together tradition and modern design. The company also has a history of collaborating with great creatives. For example, Nikari’s founder Kari Virtanen has worked with Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck, among others. In 2018, Nikari maintains its place at the top of design-focused furniture manufacturers with a collection that stuns with its ultra-clean look.

Minimal almost to the extreme, the range of tables and seating finds the essence of the everyday objects, simplifying their volumes while enhancing their character. The result? Functional products that look like works of art crafted from solid wood. Thoughtfully designed, the range includes a table created by Kari Virtanen and a bench designed in collaboration with Johanna Gullichsen. Wesley Walters and Sale Luhtasela also designed a stool family, which completes the collection in style. Made of ash or oak, the pieces of furniture will stand the test of time. Both in terms of their build and their aesthetic. Some products are also conveniently designed for indoor or outdoor use. This new collection of the Finnish design house made its debut at the 2018 Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which took place between 6-10 February. Photographs© Nikari.
