An Open Air Cinema Inspired By Old Drive-Ins

The magic of movies, the charm of old drive-ins as well as the minimalist elegance of modern design come together in “Walk In Cinema”. The series of urban furniture was designed by multidisciplinary studio Mezzo Atelier in collaboration with Filippo Losi Lab for the Concorto Short Film Festival which takes place in Pontenure, Italy.

Located in Raggio Park, the furniture pieces created a warm and welcoming atmosphere inspired by retro drive-ins and old movie theaters, while also providing a practical way to guide visitors from the park’s entrance towards the screening area. The manufacturing stage combined digital and manual processes, from the CNC machine cut plywood letters to the handmade metal joints, with all the components combined to create tables, seating and a directional totem. Surrounded by greenery and filled with a lively audience, the Walk In Cinema transformed every evening into a wonderland lit by the numerous light bulbs dotted around the furniture pieces and by the glow of the screen.
