Paintings by Eckart Hahn

One might mistake Eckart Hahn’s hyper-realistic paintings to be photographs, though only before the realization hits that a gorilla would never pose with a trash bag over its head, and that a swan would never sit quietly bound to a panther’s back. The unusual groupings of figures in Hahn’s paintings evoke the Dada photomontages that juxtapose the unexpected and highlight the wild imagination of their creators. Oftentimes, the protagonists in the paintings are also united with color backgrounds or unlikely situations. Even the still life contains evidences of – well – life, through the luster of the materiality and dynamicism of composition.
