Reporters pour time and dedication into crafting a hard-hitting newspaper for the public on a daily basis. Yet once these publications are given out to the public, their fate is usually a doomed one. They end up in the trash, are spilled all over the sidewalk, or are left abandoned by their owner on a bus seat. Artist Eginhartz Kanter finds a more creative way to use our literary friend in his series “Parasite Swarms Part 1.” He places newspapers in an assortment of ways in abandoned buildings, former industrial zones, arterial roads and noise barriers along railroads; areas that can be considered the ‘stepchildren’ of city planning. These installations are in places where people may pass by, but wouldn’t take much notice. The newspapers are similar to parasites at first glance, but are a symbol of different and unexpected ways to use our discarded news.
