With an appearance that looks like the orthogonal cousin of the personable Luxo in Pixar’s “enlightening” short, Pencil Light serves a dual purpose for the draftsperson. The lamp, designed by Caroline Olsson, functions as a light source to illuminate drawings and other folios while also provides a repository for pencils, pens, and other similar instruments. The hinged connection between the head and body allows the piece to be completely folded into a wooden rectangular prism for ease of portability. In addition to the light’s detailed craftsmanship, the technical function of the screw mechanism allows the head to be angled and held in place, and can be enacted to change the height of the light. A helpful friend indeed for those late work nights!
